Graphic Novel Summer (6th - 8th)
This grant provides materials to make a “Graphic Novel Summer!” Each grade 6th - 8th reads a shared graphic novel over the summer. Incoming 6 th graders read El Deafo; incoming 7 th graders read Coraline; and incoming 8 th graders read Eighth Grade Bites: Chronicles of Vladimir Tod. In addition to the assigned graphic novel, students are given a list of other options, and they read as many novels (traditional or graphic) as they can throughout the summer. Mini lessons in June set the students up for success in their summer reading, by incorporating a multitude of reading strategies that are exclusive to reading this genre.
Scheduled Grant Date: Summer '16 - September 2016
